Adam---17!

Adam turned 17 on the 26th. It's hard to believe 17 years ago he came into the world...a beautiful, healthy 7 pound 4 ounce bundle of sweetness. I have talked a lot about Adam on here--I think you all know how I feel about the number 1 son (that first born!). Especially all of you who know me and know him. You can go here to read an entry I wrote about Adam not that long ago...in case you are new here.

Just a little something for Adam.

Lucey helped open Adam's gifts.

The darn cellophane...

We had plans to take Adam to his favorite restaurant the day before his birthday but Adam couldn't spare us any time. Adam has been swamped with class projects. He had two big assignments due this week in two of his college courses....History and Psychology. The day after prom he was up and working all day. Every night he has been up late for the past few weeks. I picked him up from school on Monday to take him out to lunch and he told me he was sick. :-( Christian was positive for strep so I took Adam straight to the Dr.'s for a strep test. He still had to work on his research papers....not much of a birthday for Adam. Hopefully this weekend, after everything is turned in, we can go have a relaxing dinner out and celebrate Adam.
We love you Adam!

More Prom Pictures

I'm finally posting more prom pictures....

His vest and tie were platinum.

Adam definitely has his own style. When he saw these Chuck T*ylor's at the store he begged me for them. I had to think about it...I'm a traditional girl. I told him "fine" but it would be an early birthday gift. If that's the craziest thing he does?

Caitlin needed her Mom to step in to help with the corsage. They are so hard to get on especially when you are nervous...I remember that.

So handsome.

Walking the red carpet. It was a drizzly kind of day so they moved the red carpet under the overhang. All of us parents were all crammed under taking pictures. The kids loved it. The Mamarazzi's all snapping away.
They are looking at Caitlin's parents in this photo.

It's my turn...."Get out of my way people....that's my son!" Ha! Oh, you know me....I'm so short and polite....but I wanted to say that! I was on my tip toes trying to get a good photo.

They are getting ready to make their entrance....oh but first....a breathalyzer....for everyone. I'm glad they were serious about the no drinking rule that night. This Mom was happy. Although I have no reason not to trust Adam. :-)

Adam sent us a text message..."come on in and take some pictures." "Really....you mean it? I'll be right there!" I was so happy that he didn't mind me taking a few inside prom. He gave me a hug and kiss too. Adam made my night.

This was a quick random shot on my way out. The place was decorated so beautiful. The staff, parents, and students all did a great job. It was an elegant evening....until....the after party. The Parent Club hosted a fun night for all with inflatables. They had obstacle courses, walls to climb, boxing rings....you name it. Adam was exhausted by the end of the night. All good, clean, sweaty fun.
(Just in case you are wondering...Adam is a day student at a boarding school. There are quite a few international students. He has made a lot of new and diverse friends....it's been a blessing to him. Oh, and Lucey is a hit with all the kids.....)

Prom 2010

We just returned from watching the kids walk the red carpet into the venue. There were so many parents taking pictures and having so much fun with the kids. Adam didn't even mind me coming into the dance to take a few shots. It was his idea! I'm sharing a few of the many pictures we took this evening. The first photo session was on the river front with Adam's group.

Ron took a lot of great pictures. There was also a professional photographer taking pictures.

I'm tired so I will end here. Check back tomorrow...I'll be posting the rest. (click on the photo to enlarge it.)

Adam and his date, Caitlin. She is so nice and beautiful. Her twin brother was also with this group of kids. We got to know her parents a little better this evening. Such a great family.

The girls in front....such beautiful dresses. Caitlin is 6th from the left. Adam is back row; 5th from the left.

The guys in front...those Junior boys can be so silly.
To be young....it was so long ago for us. I'm having fun looking at life through Adam's eyes.

The Weekend--Off and Running

We have some fun events planned for this weekend along with some spring cleaning and some recovering too.

The recovering....I took Andrew and Christian to a last minute doctor's appointment last Wednesday because of their asthma and other allergy symptoms. They both have been using their rescue inhalers and Christian had an audible wheeze. Andrew had hives. The medications they were using were not helping. Their teacher was not happy when I showed up to sign them out of class. I have never seen her get so flustered. The boys said she was really upset when the office called and told her I would be coming. They are working on research papers and this was going to be an inconvenience to the schedule. Let's see......breathing vs. school? A no brainer when you have an asthmatic child (two in my case). Both boys were in the yellow zone....meaning, caution... we upped their steroid and added some other medications. Their doctor looked in their throats and noticed they were red. They were tested for strep. I thought for sure, since they never complained about a sore throat (probably because the asthma was most stressful), that the redness was due to their post nasal drip. I got a call yesterday that Christian does in fact have strep. The nurse told me that I could pick up his penicillin and that they were watching Andrew's culture. Gee Whiz! He has not felt well but has been going to school. I can't believe I didn't catch this. So, this weekend is about resting and healing for him. They both are breathing better.

Today was the post-wide yard sale. We didn't have anything to sell but we have been cleaning the garage and basement. We had several things to give away to include a HUGE desk that was taking up space in our garage. It was on the curb for about 10 min. when the guys from the firehouse came to take it off our hands. Yippee!!! They needed a new desk and we are glad we could be of help. The boys are cleaning the cars and I'm still working on the basement.

As far as fun....Adam is getting ready for his first prom. Ron picked up his tuxedo (the store was close to where he works) last Wed. It fit him well except for the shirt. Yesterday, after some confusion, Ron was able to get a smaller size. Adam modeled for me last night, he looked so handsome. He went and got a haircut a few hours ago...he's looking sharp. He picked up his date's corsage...it's perfect. I know she will love it.

In a few hours he will be going up to the town where he goes to school to pick up his date and have pictures taken with his group of 40! Yes, 40! They are all going out to dinner in another town and then back to the first town for their prom which is held at a conference center. The parents club has rolled out the red carpet and all parents are invited to come and take pictures as each couple is announced and strolls the red carpet. I'll be there for sure with my Nikon! I'll post pictures tonight!

We have some fun things planned for Andrew, Christian, and Lucey a little later this evening. The boys have something special in mind for Adam's birthday so we will be shopping for those two gifts. They get so excited about their gift ideas.

Tomorrow, early evening, we are taking Adam out to his favorite Chinese Restaurant for his 17th birthday. His birthday is on Monday but with track and school projects due....he can't spare us much time on Monday. So Sunday we celebrate his 17 years! I need to make his cake this afternoon. I'm sure christian will help me. This year will be a quiet celebration with just the 6 of us. It's what Adam wanted. He really does not like to be the center of attention.

Going back to last weekend--

Adam was in his school play, (click here to learn more about the play) "The Boys Next Door." The cast has been working on it for almost 4 months. It was a tough play to pull together but it came together beautifully. The cast performed very well. Christian and Lucey went with us while Andrew, who was not feeling well, stayed home. Lucey sat for almost the entire two hours. At the very end she got squirmy and Ron had to take her to rear of the auditorium.

Posing with Adam after the play.

I'm doing better with my zoom lens but not in a dark place. These pictures did not turn out well. Adam is in the center, back row.

Adam directed the small ensemble during intermission. It was funny....Adam is playing a germ-a-phobic and he is giving one of his coaches a hard time.

Adam--far right.
Last year, Adam complained that the play was not ready to be performed. He was wrong...the play was wonderful. He said the same thing this year. Why do I believe him? He was wrong again....it was terrific. :-)

Adam's First Meet

Tuesday- April 20th--Adam ran in his first track meet of the season. Andrew and Christian had soccer practice and Ron is in town this week so he was able to be with the younger boys. Lucey and I drove an hour to the middle of nowhere to meet up with Adam and were able to see him run his first race. BTW: The drive was beautiful! I'm glad my car didn't break down ;).

The 400m "sprint". The 400 is a test of you against your body. How long can you run fast without giving into the pain, and how fast can you run? It looks painful. This was the first time Adam had run this race. He did well. I'm proud of him.

Getting set...

He's off...

That's Adam, right there in the middle of the photo. I love that I caught him in a mid air stride..

Closing in on the finish.

Giving it his all.

Waiting on the results. He didn't place...but that's okay...his teammate placed. Go MH-MA! (That didn't come out right...they are a team and although Adam did well....it was also good to see a MH-MA student place...it's a small school and they are all in it together.)

Preparing for his next race.

With a few of his teammates.
He is getting ready to run the 800m. A short distance run. The 800 is a test of you against the rest of the racers. Can you stay close enough to out run them at the end, or can you take the pace out quick enough that they can't catch you at the end?

Adam and his teammate ran it together.

Starting out...

Pacing himself.

In the hunt.

Fighting fatigue.

Getting advice from the coaches after the race.
What does Lucey do to occupy herself while I'm taking pictures and cheering Adam on?

Bubbles of course. Getting sloppy sticky with them. Mixed with playing in some gravel. Having an accident because I didn't get her to the potty in time. I practically gave her a bath in the restroom in between races. Ha! I had a change of clothes for her so we were good.

She actually made some bubbles. She was working hard at it.

She was careful with the bubbles....not to spill the container.

She's using her left hand, Ron! Ron told me recently that he never sees her using her left hand. That's all I ever see her use. Hmmmm...we will see.

She was such a good little traveler and was so happy to see Adam when he was done with his race. It was a good time!

Dancing With Daddy & Other Pictures

Just like all little girls...Our Lucey Lu loves to play dress up. A few days a week she slips into this "fluffy" princess costume. Ron came home from work and got so tickled over Lucey's love for twirling in all pink. Of course he had to join in for a twirl around the room with his girl.....

It's been so nice here...we have the perfect playground that is sized for Lucey. She is safe to climb, run and play. Her body is getting stronger and her balance is better.

Lucey loves snuggling in Adam's arms...I'm quite sure they are watching D*ra. Adam doesn't mind. The snuggling is mutual.

I need to get this girl some more dress up clothes. It's not raining nor is it chilly outside...Don't you love the rain boots on the wrong feet with her windbreaker and D*ra panties?

I know her birth mom could not support Lucey's needs. We can though and we feel so blessed that we are able to share our faith with her....that she will know her heavenly Father.....that we will all draw upon the Lord's strength and His provision as we approach summer and Lucey's first surgery. We will need your prayers. We will keep you posted as summer nears. Thank you for your support, concern and most of all....love.
Love,
Beth
