Tian Tan Buddha--The Big Buddha

Journal Entry 11: Big Buddha- 7 March 09

Hello Everyone, this is my last journal entry from Hong Kong. We visited the Big Buddha, Po Lin Monastery and Ngong Mountain Village. It truly was one of the best places for touring. We had a misty mountain cable car ride up the mountain. The Big Buddha was an amazing structure to view. For many tourists, it was a spiritual visit. Not us! Po Lin Monastery was beautiful. A Buddhist Monk came up to Lucey, stroked her face and bad ear several times and smiled. She gave Lucey a banana, a blessing, bowed and went on her way. I could tell she was happy for Lucey. Ngong is a beautiful mountain village right out of a postcard. It was loaded with many affordable tourist shops. We had lunch in the village and bought a family set of chopsticks at the Chopstick Gallery. Our cable car ride back down the mountain was adventurous! It rained steadily and the wind really blew hard. Adam and I looked at each other with nervous laughter and Lucey was clueless. Obviously, we made it back. We learned they do close down the cable cars in high winds but today was only a small challenge for the tour operators. It would take much higher winds to stop profit. It was pretty safe though. Our incredible journey in Mainland China and Hong Kong has now ended. We tried to make the most of every moment of the trip. We immersed ourselves in the culture and spent very little time in our hotel rooms. We rise early morning to head back to the United States. We miss Beth, Andrew, Christian and Max and can't wait to see them at the St. Louis Airport. It has been wonderful sharing our trip with all of you. Beth, I love you so much for keeping up with this blog. You truly made it beautiful for all to see. See you at home my love!

I've added a slide show--my first time so I hope it works for you. There were too many pictures to post individually. Enjoy! (Click-"View all Images")
