Life With Lucey Lu

It's been a very busy few days but a wonderful few days. Ron had some business to do in Kansas and he took Andrew and Christian with him. They needed some Daddy Time and I needed some time to bond with Lucey Lu. Ron had appointments with two different high schools for Adam. Both interviews went well. He went to the housing office on post to see where we stand and what will be available to us in June. He checked in with the guy he is replacing this summer. I know Ron is going to enjoy his new position.

While Adam was in school the last few days, Lucey Lu and I had a great time on the floor playing and getting to know one another. She is just precious. I have to say, she really likes me. :-) She is such a happy girl and it doesn't take much to get her to smile. She is eating great and trying new foods. She has ditched the bottle and her formula from China. She struggles with a sippy cup--I think due to her facial deformity. We have tried a cup with a straw and that is working much better.

Lucey is helping me with the laundry. What fun!

We had a cold front come through so Lucey had to be bundled yesterday to take Adam to school.

Lucey loves Andrew and Christian's old fire truck.

We are making progress with Max! I can't believe she let him get this close to her. What a brave girl!

Lucey Lu is getting tired. "All this work and play, I need a rest."

It's nap time. Lucey is taking her naps in her crib. I stay with her until she drifts off. I'm so proud of you Lucey...you napped an hour.

Two nights ago, Lucey stayed asleep in her crib until 1:00 a.m. I went to her when she cried and layed on the blow up mattress on the floor next to her crib. She did great knowing I was there next to her. She woke up a few times but did not cry. I told her to lay down and she did. She understands that now.
Last night Lucey slept through the night with out one fuss. It made me nervous and I had to check on her at 4:00 a.m. Amazing!!!
The last two evenings have been incredibly busy. Picking Adam up from tennis and then off to tutoring (catching Adam up on all the work he missed while in China). Lucey and I have been at the tutoring center for two hours both nights hanging out in the foyer. She was so good. We were the only people there so we were able to play (she loves "ring-around-the-roses), eat and read books. Great bonding time. Adam needed a haircut so off we went to watch Adam. Lucey was so good. She gets in and out of her car seat with no fussing. We waited for an hour for Adam's tennis practice to be over and she took a little snooze.
Yesterday Lucey had a Dr.'s appointment. It was a long appointment. We are incredibly blessed with a sweet, young, Christian, female pediatrician. She really "gets" why we adopted a special needs baby. How the Lord led us to Lucey. She took her time and was very thorough. Lucey is very tall! She is in the 95 % for height. She is very lean. At 22 pounds, she is in the 5% for weight. Dr. Young was very pleased with her development. Lucey is a sharp one. She wasn't worried about her weight. Dr. Young has connections at Children's Hospital and made an appointment for us for Monday! We continue to be grateful for all the blessings. We will meet with the plastic surgeons Monday morning. I know Lucey needs so much....this is a good start.
Ron and the boys arrived home last night. I'm so glad they are home safe and sound. Lucey remembered them and she seemed happy about all the activity. I was so tired. I went to bed early. That felt great.

This picture of Lucey was taken this morning. She uses her new cup with the straw with no problem. She drank well this morning. She has not been drinking well for the past two days.
As I type this...Lucey is playing football with Andrew.

  1. Your blog is getting me so exicted to bring our Jia home!
Tell me how old Lucey is. I'm thinking she and Jia are about the same age. Jia turned 3 in January and only weighs 22 pounds as well. What size clothing does Lucey wear?
I hope we're able to adjust and bond as quickly as you and Lucey!
Can't wait for you to be in the KC area! Joy

  3. Hi Joy--
I am so excited for you! I never imagined, in a million years...Lucey touching my heart in the way she has. She is precious. All 5 of us feel this way. Watching Adam--my almost 16 year old pick her up and kiss her is just the sweetest. She loves him. The twins also love playing with her and carrying her around. Lucey is 21 months. She will be 2 on the 3rd of June. She wears 18 month (the dress she is wearing today is 12-18 month) clothing well. Jia must be very tiny. Do you know her length? Lucey is 35 inches. Very long! I am happy for you and your family and the moment that Jia becomes a part of all of you--physically! Let me know if I can help in any way. my email:

  4. Hi Stacy--

I'm saving all of your sweet comments for Lucey. Thank you so much for all of your encouragement. I know that the prayers and good thoughts coming our way is what is making this transition amazingly smooth. I just put Lucey down for a nap and she looks so peaceful rubbing her little blankie. :-)

Love to you and your family.
