The Army's 235th Birthday Party...

It was a lovely evening hosted by AUSA on Saturday even, June 5th There were about 500 guests in attendance:

AUSA is a private, non-profit educational organization committed to supporting America’s Army--Active, National Guard, Reserve, Civilians, Retirees, and family members. AUSA represents Soldiers by providing a voice for all components of the Army; fostering public support of the Army’s role in national security; and providing professional education and information programs. (as written on the AUSA Greater Kansas City web site)

My Mom and Dad came to hang out with the kiddos and to celebrate Lucey's birthday on Sunday (more of that to come).

Ron swore in 3 new recruits. I had the opportunity to meet these young people during cocktail hour. They were polite, very excited and I could tell they were a little nervous. They did a great job and received a standing ovation.

The birthday cake was rolled in by 4 Soldier's whom were dressed in past Army uniforms.

Many were honored that night...in this picture....wounded warriors. They were all so young. What an honor to be in their company.
Gold Star Mother's were also honored. They are an organization of mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the service of our country. These Mom's stood up proudly...with tears in their eyes. I just can't imagine.
Spouses of deployed were honored as well. They received a weekend package away when their Soldier returns. All donated by area hotels. What a great city!
Veteran's were asked to stand. They were several from "The Great Generation" amazing to think they fought in WWII.
Our dinner was so delicious. Here is a picture of our dessert. That piece of chocolate was amazing. A flour less cake. We also had white chocolate mousse with berries. Birthday cake too. I need to go on a diet now!
